Root to Rise

For 5-12 year olds. Root to Rise is a weekly club for South Asian youth, designed to give kids a strong group of friends they can grow up with over the years, caring mentors who they can relate to, and confidence in their identity through their formative years.

We bring stories of South Asian history to life in a secular, inclusive environment, through hands-on activities across art, cooking, sports, STEM, and so much more. We also organize optional social gatherings and field trips for the whole family. Each semester, we create a finale showcase & multimedia magazine together so your kids can display their discoveries through the program.

Participants are grouped into cohorts by age, and take on challenges suited to their developmental stage. 5-8 year olds are together, and 9-12 year olds are together.

We strongly recommend all Banyan Tree participants signup for a cohort of Root to Rise, as the friendships and learning kids experience here build the foundation of all our other classes and programs!

  2. Volunteer with the Banyan Tree to support local issues

  3. Lead sessions in our youth development program (Root to Rise) after getting trained in facilitation

  4. Write a family history that they can publish in a multimedia magazine for South Asian youth

  5. Build lifelong friendships, find mentors, and form a supportive community to guide them through the ups and downs of school, and the journey through college / finding a job.
