How to Apply

The application deadline is March 30. However, we accept counselors on a rolling basis. Therefore, we encourage you to apply as soon as you decide you want to participate. You can apply below.

Where

In Berkeley, CA (near Willard Park). The exact location is provided to participants only for the safety of our community.

When

To be a counselor, you are committing to a total participation of 7 weeks.

• Camp Banyan for Counselors: June 8 - 12. This is a summer camp we run for you to have fun, get to know one another, and get trained before our kiddos arrive.

• Counselor Period: June 15 - July 31. Counselors are required to join for all our youth camps during this period except June 27 - July 6 (during which camps are closed).

• Reporting Time: Counselors must report by 8:30AM sharp, and can leave at 4:30PM.

Who

• Junior Counselors must be 14+ years old and high school students (rising high school freshman may apply to be counselors, but preference is given to rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduated high school students)

• Senior Counselors must be 18+ years old and college students (rising college freshman may apply to be counselors, but preference is given to rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduated college students)

What

Counselors will play a critical role in Camp Banyan.

Junior Counselors (High School Students)

• Get to know participants in the program and be a big brother/big sister figure

• Help instructors and senior counselors in effectively conducting lessons by providing one-on-one or small group support to participants

• Work with senior counselors and instructors to develop lessons that you think the participants would benefit from

Senior Counselors (19-22 years old & College Students)

• Design lessons based on your interests with support from lead instructors

• Deliver lessons and develop your facilitation skills with support from lead instructors

• Get to know participants in the program and be a big brother/big sister figure

• Mentor junior counselors

Stipend

Junior Counselors will receive a stipend of $1200 for 6 weeks of work ($25/hour)

Senior Counselors will receive a stipend of $2000 for 6 weeks of work ($40/hour)

All counselors also receive:

• Free hot lunch

• Free vegan, nut-free snacks

• Free Camp Banyan for Counselors experience

Absences and tardiness may lead to termination, as commitment and presence is critical for youth work (as in any work). The participants will be looking forward to spending time with you each day.

Sick days are available at your discretion. If we hire you, it means we trust you to make good decisions for your team, and yourself. ☺️
